yes, i’m alive. worked hard. did a wedding “corporate” design (early examples at f.), some (re-)design (champions-world), some blog design (katharina suckale, online ~~very soon~~), a printed portfolio for sk74, consulting and preparation for a big re-design (secret). and still doing the planning for my own biggest projects: one w/ words and one w/ images - but it’s a long way to go; numbers? around 200 and around 2500. curious? harhar!

wenn jetzt die frage aufkommt, was dort erscheinen soll: ganz einfach: das worauf ich/wir lust haben, ziemlich sicher aber aus’m echten leben. weniger blogosphäre. und gleich vorneweg: zählen braucht man uns nicht: auch wie hier wird’s nicht nur monolingual zugehen.

2 weeks ago I visited a concert at the «Schleusenkrug». Bandname: «Lota Red». Style: Rock-A-Billy-Punk-Country-Folk. It was like a chainreaction. Bang. Boom. Bam. To make a long story short: Best first concert in 2007 for me. And a warm welcome back to my long lost favorite kind of music so I bought the CD «Close To The Sun» right away (follow the link and there will be the track clickable/playable).

Kick Ass’, Hellbent, Hotrodded, Glam-Rockabilly! Five guys from Berlin mixin’ their roots in ‘Rockabilly’ with influences from Country, Punk, Garage and anything else they can find to produce a sound that can only be described as ‘LOTA RED - The Big Noise From Berlin…

Yeehaa! This site changed the style today - because I can. If something is not right aligned or behaves like a donkey I’ll say sorry. Maybe I gonna fix the bugs (or not).

New (static) text blurps. Better, shorter, straighter. Thanks to: jmi, cat and tania.
Sadly sorry: The static pages (About, Service, Showroom) and their subpages are now only in german until I’ll get someone who can translate the new text pieces. Ben? Are you listening? I can’t offer money BUT in exchange for a good translation I could offer some design work or help w/ blog setup or css/theme makeover. Or mac support. Or good music tips. Or a delicious dinner.
New pages like Kulturprogramm will give you updates what I read, listen to and watch on dvd or at the movies.
My Toolbox will be relaunched very soon. Same with the FAQs.
Starting over the Showroom (replaces the portfolio); more updates very soon.
Two little (secret) projects will be presented very soon. I’m still working on them so I have to shut up for now. But two words to keep you checking my site frequently: artist and writings.

First I was happy with last.fm. It analyzes what I play via iTunes, makes musical suggestions, post my current playing song info to my blog (not working right now and I don’t know why. no time to check/fix it). anyway. the site/service itself is in my opinion not really a plus for me. no really new music for me. all of the suggestions I already knew and had mostly in my archive.

then there was light: iLike. early beta. web 2.0 (harhar). well, no API for putting the played tracks to a site (via rss or whatever), yet. maybe later? — but again: early beta (and if you take a look at the url not even a beta more a alpha). The best: musical suggestions to new music — more or less unknown artists — AND free (legal) downloadable mp3s. free. music. and the suggestions fit 90%. i like it. add the rss feature and I’ll love it.

The new cover artwork system in iTunes 7 is a little unfriendly: the connection between each song and the corresponding cover is only via the iTunes DB. Don’t like it. But what I really hate is the fact that Apple tries to hide the image. Cryptic folders and cryptic file names. An example: "~/Music/iTunes/Album 20Artwork/Download/6CACBDC1950DC19F/00/01/12/6CACBDC19 50DC19F-8CA78A55DBF3DC10.itc”

Did a little inside file «hacking» and voila: the deep into the woods put away and mystified with a «unknown» file extension — “.itc” — is at least a kind of JPEG image. I opened some of them with GraphicConverter.

Yesterday I found that great solution to post to my blog via TextMate. Today I watched the screencast (30 MB, QT). And guess what?

I’m very close to use it as my standard way to access my blogs.

Lets try to post an image … Just drag’n'drop an image onto the TextMate window and this shows up:

No need for a ftp-uploader or the wp-backend uploader or …

I think I start to get an idea what TextMate really is: The «Ubertool» for everything related to text — from simple config-files editing to creating markup or css, or in this case: feeding my blogs. (Lets count the days/weeks/months until I use BBEdit or Ecto again.)

When I stumbled upon HoudahSpot at MacZOT.com my first thought was: «I really love that catchy icon, I don’t care what the app is for — I wanna add that icon to my dock!».

After I downloaded that app for a try I knew it would be worth the money it cost. It’s a easy-to-use spotlight «frontend» or «input device». Feed your «what-I-search-for» to HoudahSpot — and it will come back with the results. easy 1-2-3. Really, I tried it and I found one big (huge, heavy) sound file I really missed (I searched by size).

Btw.: If you’re reading this on June 16-17, 2006 head over to MacZOT, you might be able to get a free or at least very price reduced copy of HoudahSpot.

Last week on friday I stumbled (again) upon a small application: WebnoteHappy. It’s a 1.0 version, and in this case it’s not a bad number. Most of the new apps don’t even get out of beta. I started testing this little apps just because of one(!) feature: import, edit and post del.icio.us bookmarks! Well, ok you can import/export your Safari and Firefox bookmarks as well.

I started using this app and missed one little function: to have a global shortcut — while in e.g. NetNewsWire or Safari — to post a link to del.icio.us. I started an e-mail conversation with the developer from WebnoteHappy, and he answered my questions very quick and helpful. And not even this: we started to talk about some improvements as well. To make it short: I think this app could be my next No. 1 in the category “needful things” (and I test a lot!). Btw.: there IS a global shortcut (cmd-shift-D) to get a floating entry/notes window!
